The Institute of Internal Combustion Engines and Thermodynamics is dedicated to providing innovative and internationally recognized teaching and research in the interconnected system energy, engines, traffic and environment. The objectives of research activities at the Institute are to ensure its continuing scientific development and to offer an education that meets today’s demands in the area of teaching. The institute employs about 160 personnel. The six main research areas are: Large Engines, Design, Combustion Systems, Traffic and Environment, Emissions and Thermodynamics. A wide variety of testing facilities is available like 14 engine test benches for engine sizes ranging from 30 ccm to 25 liters per cylinder and chassis dynamometers for two-wheelers, passenger cars and even for trucks.
